Cable Buying FAQ

Practical answers about choosing, specifying and ordering cables. We help you balance safety, suitability and cost, rather than simply recommend the highest-priced option.

Cable Selection

Copper or aluminum cable: which should we choose?

Direct answer: We recommend choosing the conductor to suit the installation, electrical requirements and total installed cost. Copper generally has lower resistance at the same cross-section; aluminum is lighter and can offer a lower material cost.

When this applies: We generally favor copper where space is limited, connections are numerous or equipment connection requirements make it preferable. Aluminum can be an economical option for larger distribution projects when its size and terminations are properly designed. Long distance alone is not a reason to choose aluminum.

Data or documents to check: Compare conductor resistance, current-carrying capacity under the actual installation conditions, voltage drop, short-circuit requirements, overall cable size and termination compatibility using the proposed product data sheets.

Next step: Send us the voltage, load current or equipment power, route length and installation method. We can compare suitable options with you.

Can we replace copper cable with aluminum at the same cross-section?

Direct answer: No. Copper and aluminum cables must not be substituted simply by keeping the same cross-section. Aluminum generally needs a larger cross-section for an equivalent duty, but the required size must be checked for the actual circuit.

When this applies: Review current capacity, voltage drop, short-circuit duty, available installation space and the equipment terminal requirements. Use suitable aluminum-compatible or copper-to-aluminum connections as required by the design.

Data or documents to check: Provide the original cable specification, circuit length, load, installation details and equipment connection information. The comparison should use the selected cable data and termination instructions.

Next step: Ask us to review the proposed substitution before ordering; final cable selection must follow the project design and applicable installation rules.

Armored or unarmored cable: which is suitable?

Direct answer: We recommend armor where the installation requires additional mechanical protection. Unarmored cable can be suitable where reliable external mechanical protection is already provided.

When this applies: For direct burial or routes exposed to impact, crushing or other mechanical risks, consider a cable construction approved for those conditions. Indoor trays, ducts or conduits may allow unarmored cable, subject to the actual risks and local rules. Armor alone does not make a cable waterproof or suitable for every burial condition.

Data or documents to check: Check the construction drawing, armor type, sheath suitability, bending radius, pulling limits and installation instructions. The project design must also address bonding, earthing and armor material where applicable.

Next step: Tell us whether the route is buried, in conduit, on a tray or in a cable trench, and describe any water, corrosion or mechanical risks. We can review appropriate constructions.

Standards & Documentation

Can you supply cable to our required standard?

Direct answer: We confirm suitability against the exact standard, edition and product specification before accepting an order. A standard mentioned in an enquiry is a requirement to review, not an automatic compliance claim.

When this applies: Requirements differ by destination, voltage class, construction and project. Product certification or local approval may be separate from manufacturing to a technical standard.

Data or documents to check: Send the applicable standard and edition, technical schedule, drawings and any mandatory certification requirements. We will identify which documents are available for the proposed product and what needs further confirmation.

Next step: Send your specification with the enquiry so we can record the agreed technical requirements in the quotation.

What certificates, data sheets and test reports should we request?

Direct answer: Request documents for the exact product being offered. A company quality management certificate does not replace a product data sheet, applicable product certification or test evidence.

When this applies: For tenders and regulated projects, check the required report type, issuing body, product scope and validity. Confirm any witness testing or third-party inspection before the order.

Data or documents to check: Useful documents can include a construction data sheet, applicable certificates, relevant test reports and the agreed inspection plan. Availability and scope must be confirmed for the quoted product.

Next step: Tell us your document checklist. We will confirm what can be supplied and whether additional testing needs to be arranged.

Purchasing & Quotations

What information do you need for a useful quotation?

Direct answer: Send the cable specification, quantity and delivery destination. If you do not know the model, describe the application so we can help identify the information needed.

When this applies: For power cable, include voltage, conductor material and size, cores, insulation, sheath, armor and installation method. For overhead conductors, include strand construction and the relevant line requirements.

Data or documents to check: Provide a bill of quantities, specification sheet or drawings where available. State the required standard, packing, documentation and requested delivery date. You can email files to liuruhui@yt5888.cn.

Next step: Use our enquiry form or email us your project information. We aim to recommend a suitable option rather than simply the most expensive construction.

What are your minimum order quantity, sample and payment terms?

Direct answer: We confirm these terms for the specific product and order. There is no single published minimum quantity, sample policy or payment term that should be assumed to apply to every enquiry.

When this applies: Standard and custom constructions, production setup, required quantity and delivery destination can affect the offer. Samples may require separate preparation and freight arrangements.

Data or documents to check: Ask for a written quotation stating the minimum order, sample availability, any sample or freight charges, payment terms and quotation validity.

Next step: Tell us the specification and trial or bulk quantity you need. We will confirm the proposed terms before you place an order.

Packing & Logistics

How is delivery time confirmed?

Direct answer: Delivery time must be confirmed for the order. Production lead time and transport time are separate, and neither should be assumed from a general product description.

When this applies: The schedule depends on technical approval, materials, quantity, manufacturing and testing requirements, packing and the transport route.

Data or documents to check: Request an agreed schedule identifying the starting conditions, production and inspection stages, expected dispatch date and shipping assumptions. Record changes in the order confirmation.

Next step: Share your required delivery date, destination and quantity so we can review a practical schedule with you.

Discuss delivery planning →

How should cable packing and shipping be specified?

Direct answer: Agree the drum or coil arrangement, lengths and shipping responsibilities before production. Packing should suit handling, storage and the planned transport method.

When this applies: Check route access and unloading equipment as well as the installation length. Drum dimensions and weight may affect site handling and freight planning.

Data or documents to check: Confirm the packing specification, length per drum or coil, markings, dimensions and weights when available. The quotation should identify the agreed trade term and named delivery place or port.

Next step: Send us your packing instructions and destination. Ask us to confirm the proposed arrangement in the offer.

After-Sales Support

What should we check when the cable arrives?

Direct answer: Check the shipment against the order and packing list, and document any visible damage or discrepancy promptly.

When this applies: Inspect drums or coils, labels, accessible cable ends and packaging before installation. Follow the agreed handling and storage instructions; any electrical testing should be performed by qualified personnel under the project procedure.

Data or documents to check: Keep the packing list, drum or batch identification, delivery record and clear photographs. Note shortages or transport damage on the delivery documentation where appropriate.

Next step: Contact us with the order number and supporting records so we can review the issue and the agreed delivery responsibilities.

How do we request support for a suspected quality problem?

Direct answer: We review the evidence against the agreed specification and order terms. Warranty coverage, remedies and responsibilities depend on the contract and the cause of the problem.

When this applies: A review may need to distinguish manufacturing issues from transport, storage, installation or operating conditions. Do not continue using a cable suspected to be unsafe; seek qualified advice on site.

Data or documents to check: Provide the order and drum or batch numbers, product specification, photographs, installation and operating details, and relevant test results. Keep affected material available for examination.

Next step: Email liuruhui@yt5888.cn or use our contact page. We will review the information and coordinate the next steps; any warranty period or remedy must be confirmed in the contract.
